Valerie Harper quotes:
"I used to get some ego thing out of saying I wasn't a star, just an actress. Forget it. I'm a star. I wanted it. I worked for it. I got it."
"Don't have the funeral until the day of the funeral, ... Live today. There's capellini in the cabinet to be cooked, which I'm doing."
"I love to inspire people. I’d like to be remembered in a way that they would take action. I love to get people moving [to better themselves]. I’d like to be remembered for energy. Pulling people on the dance floor!"
How good it is to see that someone "wants to inspire people". I used to take that for granted. Now I find I need to know that more and more.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Valerie Harper images and quotes. I grew up on the Mary Tyler Moore show and had the incredible privilege and pleasure of meeting writer Treva Silverman - the WOMAN who created Rhoda's character - at a Thanksgiving dinner here in Venice a few years ago. Her boyfriend is the father of a neighbor. She couldn't have been more engaging and charming. And she was a groundbreaker - not that many women working in sitcoms in those days. Few would argue that Valerie Harper left an indelible impression as edgy and earthy Rhoda, the perfect sidekick for lovably uptight Mary Richards. She was, in the parlance of the era, a great broad.
