FotD Featuring Chanel Fall 2016 Le Rouge Collection
Or: My mom said I'm too pale, so I've put on a red blush.
As promised, here's a serving suggestion for a daytime look that includes the reds from Chanel Fall 2016 Le Rouge Collection No.1. I went with as many Chanel products as looked reasonable, and also gave their Les Beiges Healthy Glow foundation another chance, this time loading up on skin enriching The Face Shop Mango Seed Butter Glow Date-Prep, to make sure my skin texture is at its very best. Les Beiges still sucked the life out of it for the first hour of wear, before settling into a powdery matte finish. I can't see myself wearing it unless I'm going to be outside in a super humid weather. And even then I'm not sure that's the best option. My shade match, after also testing the yellower No. 21 and the darker No.40, turned to be No.30, which was not a big surprise. Out of the bottle and unblended the color looked Trumpily orange (see below), but apparently my arm has a lot more green than my face these days, so it was the better option color-wise. I did use quite a bit of Chanel Tan de Soleil (see: my mother's comment on my lack of color).
Face
The Face Shop Mango Seed Butter Glow Date-Prep
Le Blanc de Chanel Illuminating Base
Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow foundation No.30
Chanel Tan de Soleil Bronzing Makeup Base
Chanel Eclat Lumiere Face Pen under the eyes and around my nose to cancel the redness and brighten up. I skipped precision concealer as there was nothing particularly glaring otherwise, and already had on more than enough base products.
I also avoided powdering, which I never do, because Holy Mother of Matte Faces.
Eyes
Wet'n'Wild primer.
Chanel Fall 2016 eye shadow quad Candeur et Experience. I used all four colors, starting with the lightest brown from the lash line up to just above the crease, then added the second-lightest on the outer two thirds of the mobile lid. Nest step was mixing the red and darkest brown into the outer V, creating a shape that I topped with a lot more of the red. I've already experimented enough with it that my lids can take an abnormal amount of this color because they're that much darker than any other part of my skin. So I was not scared to pat one last coat of red before blending it carefully.
Chanel Stylo Waterproof eyeliner in Santal, which is probably the best eye pencil they ever created. Some of the Stylo pencils have a horrible texture or a miserable pigment, but Santal is excellent (and thankfully permanent). I used it on the upper lid, waterline, and lower lash line, where it stayed all afternoon and into the evening.
Le Volume de Chanel mascara in Noir. I keep acquiring samples of this mascara, and once even bought a tube, but I still don't think it's all that.
Cheeks
I added even more Soleil Tan de Chanel and topped it all with the new Chanel Rouge Profond Joues Contraste Blush. After I took the photos I decided to add a touch more blush (but my camera's battery was dead by then), because I felt I could get away with it. I was wearing a maxi dress in a pale blush color. It's an unusual choice for me, and the color had the potential to wash me out (hence all that Soleil), so I made sure it didn't.
Lips
MAC Prep & Prime lip primer (because I recently repurchased for the eleventy seventh time and it was sitting there).
Chanel Precision Lip Liner in 05 Mordoré. The name means "bronze", the color is actually nude (even according to Chanel), and I'm still trying to come up with a good Sean Bean-as-Boromir "One just not simply walk into Mordoré" meme after all these years. I'm a nerd in every possible way.
Chanel Rouge Allure lipstick in the new Rouge Tentation fall shade, applied with a brush and slightly blotted.
That was it. No powder, concealer, brows or gloss. The day was oppressively hot and humid, and I was already cranky about the stupid foundation. I wore my glasses later that afternoon while driving, and when I checked I saw that my eye makeup appeared very subtle. probably because my frame is burgundy. Maybe I should have put on more red eye shadow.
Other Stuff
SotD Chanel No.19 (it was an obvious choice)
Aforementioned dress from ASOS.
Vintage necklace.
Just a suggestion...I rushed to get the Chanel Les Beiges foundation when it came out, and was also disappointed. However...I read quite a few reviews...and I became convinced that that overly-matte look was due to the fact that I used too much, even though I thought I didn't. So...I tried again with MUCH less product...and Voila! It's quite usable if I use just a teensy bit...can even mix a drop of moisturizer in with it also. Try it again!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip, Bisbee. I will try it this week. I tend to be very conservative in my foundation application, but you're right that some products require even smaller amounts (or massive buffing and stretching). I'll do my best to make it work.
DeleteI love how you used the red color, I was wondering how someone (me lol) could use it without looking ridiculous. It's really very elegant!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Evelyn. If I can wear it, so can you.
DeleteYou look really pretty! I didn't think that any real person (translate: not a model being made up by a staff of 20) could pull off the new Chanel Rouge line, but it's great to see that I was wrong. I had purchased the nail polishes, I always do, but now I may go back and pick up the other items in the collection. By the by, good choice with Chanel 19 for your scent of the day! I I love it, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteThese colors are surprisingly wearable. I don't know if it's the superb Chanel textures and finishes or the pigments themselves, but it just works. I'm always reminded of makeup artist Ellis Faas's approach to color: shades that exist in the human body are the most flattering, even if they appear unorthodox at first glance.
You look beautiful!! I think I will have to go and try this out for myself.
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see a beautiful FOTD of a real person with similar coloring to mine. I have so many of the products you mention. It's been a real bummer that the two recent eye quads by Chanel that have good quality are a bit warm for me. Apart from eyeliner, I don't wear much brown on the eyes, except for red or purple browns. So one out of four is a but indulgent for me. I did get the Eros YS and the JC both of which I adore. And I am having fun doing my version of the look of the season with the glorious reddish brown in the Viseart Bridal Satin palette as well as the new Bijoux palette which has three wine colors, along with some deeper blue and green metallics for winter.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful FoTD. Even now, that quad just doesn't speak to me. No matter how much moisturizer I apply before, I still cannot get the Les Beiges foundation to work for me. It just sucks the living juices out of my skin, emphasizing all my textural problems and making me look like a lined, shriveled prune. Santal is permanent?!!! I was so afraid it was LE. Have to agree with you, it is one of the best Chanel eye liners.
ReplyDeleteYou look lovely, Gaia. Your eyes are the beautiful rich, warm colors of autumn leaves. I still can't get over how easy to wear Candor et Expérience actually is. The colors blend and layer so easily and all work to support each other in creating gorgeous gradients.
ReplyDeleteHi Collarjean,
I laughed when I read your comment about the impossibility of "any real person" being able to carry off this collection. I thought the same when I first saw the promos, but when I actually played with the products, it was like it had been custom made for me. It makes my eye color pop (dark, warm, green) and adds a bit of edginess without going to extreme. And that red, oh that red! It's so easy to wear! By the way, I'm a 72 year old "real person"! LOL
*looks up from taking notes* Hey, the eyelash thing you mentioned recently is working for you -so pretty! A shopping spree in in my future - I wonder if this look would go with the Casmir I have on the way as SotD:)? Not that Chanel No. 19 is not on the list, too....

Gorgeous! Now that's how to wear Chanel. :) After reading your review of the Rouge Profond, I bought it and adore it...so much so that I went back for a number of other things from the collection. Alas, the eye quad doesn't work for me (which I should have known; it's far, far too warm for my coloring). The red was actually great, but the warm tans and brows--I just can't pull them off, for some reason I always look tired with warm browns on my eyes. Oh, well. They look stunning on you, as does the rest of the look you put together.
ReplyDeleteRed is a very versatile colour in shadow if one have brown eyes and non cold complection. Me, an extremely fair norwegian skinned woman with roscasea needs to be more careful since it brings out the redness, but full coverage foundation was invented for a reason. I make an eye makeup with satin red on movable lid and matte plum in the crease for the party season and pair it with a bordeaux or nude mouth. Always a success.
