Over the last week I was asked three times about Clé de Peau, maybe because it's been a while since I've reviewed anything from this brand. My answer is still the same after all this years: you cannot go wrong with their exquisite face and lip makeup, their skincare is fantastic if overpriced, and the eye makeup is below mediocre. I'm especially partial to Clé de Peau lipsticks in their various formats and finishes, because they're among the most luxurious makeup items you can find.
Case in point: Clé de Peau Extra Rich Lipstick. Actually, all their lipsticks feel "extra rich" and act like a lip treatment without compromising pigmentation and longevity. I also appreciate that their color range is focused on pretty and flattering shades and not on the latest trend. These are elegant lipsticks in gorgeous packaging that makes you want to carry them in a worthy purse. Yup, slippery slope.
The Extra Rich Lipstick I have here is 212, a coral pink (on Barneys website it's described as a "ripe peach red". It kind of is). It's an easy to wear brightish color that's perfect for the season. The formula is semi-sheer yet buildable (the swatch you see is two swipes), and leaves a good stain behind. The multi-faceted shape of the lipstick makes it easy to apply straight from the bullet, including where you want a more precise touch. The lipstick wears very evenly, and the hydrating formula keeps the pigment from pooling into lines and from flaking. You lose the luster finish after a meal, but some stain remains, waiting for you to reapply.
Bottom Line: As good as it gets.
Cle de Peau has changed the packaging and pricing in the last year or so. The lipsticks used to cost $55- 60, and come already in their case. Now you have to buy them separately, the lipstick refills are $40 and the refillable holder retails for $25. The lipsticks are made in Japan (not sure about the plastic cases), and available from select department stores (Barneys, Neiman, and the other usual suspects).
A thing of beauty. I want it.

That's kind of my reaction to every CdP lipstick I see.
DeleteI love CdP's lipstick. It is one of the very few that I can wear throughout the day, day after day, without experiencing any flaking or other signs of dryness. And, as smooth and creamy as it is, I never have any problems with it feathering or pooling in my lip lines. The colors are always gorgeous--fashionable without being trendy--and the finish is like satin. As for price, I got over that a long time ago as its not that much different from my beloved Rouge G. If a product works as well for me as CdP Extra Rich does, then it is worth it. I'd rather have a more limited selection of these wonderful lipsticks that I can count on for performance and beauty than a drawer full of lipsticks that ultimately irritate my lips.
