Do you think that if from now on I'll buy every seasonal Tatcha lipstick (in reasonable colors, of course), I'll be able to forgive myself for skipping on the previous one, Kyoto Red? I doubt it, but I'll do my best to try. Which brings us to Tatcha Sunrise: A Plum Blossom Limited Edition 23-Karat Gold Illuminated Lipstick, a luxurious little thing from the packaging to the lipstick itself.
Tatcha is famous for their traditional Japanese skincare which has expanded by now to also include fantastic body care. And a limited edition seasonal lipstick. Sunrise: A Plum Blossom is a plummy rose. Since my lips are naturally dark, this color falls under the "my lips but way way better" category. It's easy to wear, goes with everything, and feels like a lip treatment more than a color product. The lipstick has no discernible scent or flavor, it isn't sticky and nor is it dry. The finish is thankfully creamy, neither matte nor shiny, just a classic beautiful lipstick.
The faceted design of the bullet makes it easy to apply straight, without a brush. I find that a nude lip liner is helpful in keeping the shape crisp, which is my personal favorite. Longevity is above average. It survives a drink and maybe even a snack, but eventually you'll want to reapply. The elegant case makes it quite desirable. It's beautiful and it stands out in a sea of black encased lipsticks, so that's fun.

That is a beautiful shade and the packaging is exquisite ... but at $55 I will have to be content to admire it from afar, sort of like when I visit the Tower of London and gaze longingly at the crown jewels.

*Love* this liptick - the packaging, the color, the shape of the lipstick itself, the name (plum blossoms are a symbol of spring and that seems like a very good thing right now).

DeleteOh, the lipstick really is a pretty one on you. I love the Benefit Gimme Brow. I have very scant brows where there used to be thick black ones. I use Anastasia Brow Gel, then Medium/Dark Gimme Brow used sparingly for a super natural look. It works extremely well for me. ADORE those precious earrings by the way.

Beautiful face of the day. I hesitated on this color only because I found the Kyoto Red a tad too warm/orangey for my taste. I like a truly neutral to blue based red. I hardly ever wear my Kyoto Red. When this one arrived, I a was glad I broke down and bought one. It's a perfect spring time color.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely an easier color to wear. I can pull off some orangey reds because my natural lips neutralize them quite a bit. Of course, I'm losing the full effect but I have a wider range.
DeleteI've gushed about this gorgeous springtime lipstick on some other blogs, so I won't do so here. Suffice it to say that this is an extraordinary lipstick in that its slight transparency means that it adapts so beautifully to a variety of skin tones and lip tones. And that micro-fine gold shimmer that catches the light is simply beyond gorgeous. Tatcha managed to capture spring in a lipstick. Beautiful!

DeleteSomehow I had seen this lipstick on the Tatcha website thinking that if you ever wrote about it I'd be interested. You did and I am! Loved your heads up on the Sophia Loren D+G - bought it blind and love it. So I ordered this. And in ordering, ended up learning about the Kyoto Red which somehow had evaded my consciousness.

DeleteJust received Plum Blossom - shade is beautiful. It is more substantial than I had thought, which is good - it looked translucent in most swatches. On you it looked more shiny. For me it is a gorgeous plum matte, which makes SoSuSam's comment more understandable in terms of "less soothing". For soothing, the new Chanel Stylo lipsticks are worth trying. My lips are also darker naturally so this is NOT pink - at least with a pale winter face, it isn't!

DeleteI bought this on a whim--and I don't love it. Nothing against Tatcha or the lipstick itself; I actually think the issue is that the Tatcha brand simply doesn't work for me. I wanted to love Tatcha! The customer service is extraordinary, the packaging so beautiful, the line appears thoughtful and deliberate, and many, many people adore the products. But nothing has worked for me so far. The skin care doesn't do anything for my very dry (but well cared for and hydrated by other brands) skin, and I also found the hand lotion and this lipstick too dry for me. I do take very good care of my skin so it typically looks and feels good, but somehow Tatcha products (and I've tried A LOT of them) leave it parched and uncomfortable. The lipstick is in line with that experience: same price as my beloved Guerlain Rouge Gs, but much less luxurious and soothing on the lips, and fades much more quickly. I'm going to assume it's me, not Tatcha, and will try to resist my occasional urges to revisit the brand. As for everyone else who is able to enjoy it--how lucky you are! :)
ReplyDeleteYou might want to try the luxuriously soothing Tatcha lip oil, the only lip product that moisturizes my lips for 4 continuous hours in the bitter cold, dry Canadian winter. It is a warm coral sheer gloss, but not porno-glossy if you know what I mean..
