Book
Foreign Affairs by Alison Lurie. An Anglophile academic takes herself and her self pity to the UK. Exquisitely written.
Music
I'm on a Django Django kick. Have been listening to this one every night.
TV
We really need an option to stream all the episodes in every season of The Great British Baking Show (it's on PBS, for the uninitiated). And a delivery service of baked goods to go with it.
Perfume
I'm constantly alternating between vintage Fidji and vintage Opium.
Makeup
The items I bought from Guerlain Holiday collection have been seeing a lot of use. Also eyeliner. Lots of eyeliner in every form.
Frequently Worn Outfit/Item
A silk chiffon DVF top in a floral print with jeans. Add flats during the day and my most outrageous boots for night.
Link
The panda cam at the National Zoo. You'll never get anything done, but you'll be very very happy.
Guilty Pleasure
Today I refuse to feel even an ounce of guilt. Besides, today's pleasure was installing a storage system and organizing the vanities in both bathrooms. It doesn't get more wholesome than this.
Food
Fresh baked good from Balthazar. Another perk of living in North Jersey.
Bane
Can't have any banes when I feel so lucky living my little life among people and cats I love.
Joy
My sister is coming tomorrow for a quick visit.
Anticipation
Thanksgiving with friends.
Wishlist
To get every corner in every cabinet in the house efficient and organized. I might have been pursuing Pinterest a bit more than what's good for me.
Random Thought
During a week of extra obnoxious social media activity I felt very pleased for not having to unfriend or block a single person. My friends are awesome.
How are you doing? Please share your recommendations, loves, banes, and random thoughts!

I remember reading a book by Alison Lurie, years ago ("The Language of Clothes"). Just now I went to Amazon to look up Foreign Affairs, and I see that she has written several books with intriguing titles! I've put a few on my wish list.
ReplyDeleteRe: social media. I was also very pleased when I checked my Facebook this week, and didn't have to unfriend anyone. It appears that even my more obnoxious friends have finally learned to behave themselves. :P
What an insane week it's been. So glad you've had a positive social media experience this week, despite all the craziness. Luckily, I have had a good friends week as well.
ReplyDeleteBooks - Just finished The Rosie Project and The Rosie Effect by Graeme Simsion. Light, easy, humorous reads, where I recognized bits and pieces of members of my immediate family. Reading Amy Poehler's "Yes Please" now.
TV- I had no idea there was a way to watch The Great British Bake Off on this side of the pond. I would move to the UK just to sit glued to my telly watching that show.
Perfume - Rotating through all my rose and iris and chypre based scents.
Bane - Horse people
Joy - Other horse people coming in for the rescue. Of course, my mare will always be a joy, even if she's so arthritic she cannot be ridden.
Looking forward to Thanksgiving with my small family and a few days off to visit the horse and see some movies.
Book
ReplyDeleteVéra (Mrs. Vladimir Nabokov) by Stacy Schiff

Still stuck with New Order, Who's Joe is current fave.

TV
The Bridge 3 (only two episodes left!)
Perfume
L'Artisan Parfumeur has been house of the month: got stuck with EdP and EdP versions of Mûre et Musc and Premier Figuier.
Makeup
MAC Relentlessly Red lipstick to fight off the grey gloom.
Food
Spicy lentil casserole
I loved that book.
ReplyDeleteI'm really enjoying reading it! Still in Berlin, the Nabokovs just got married.
DeleteForgot one essential item from makeup: have been wearing OPI O Suzi Mio on my nails for the whole month (have always loved this sort of eggplant shades)!
In lippies there has been some variation, for example today I'm wearing My Inner Femme, and Fashion Revival and All Fired Up have been around, too.
books: only work related books for me right now. Loving them to pieces in any case.
ReplyDeletemusic: a bit of Nils Fram, a bit of Arvo Part, and a bit of New Wave compilations and a sprinkle of Violeta Parra.
TV: Elementary!
Perfume: Going through many samples of vanilla and amber oils and concoctions also MKK but mostly sampling away.
Makeup: Becca highlighter in Pearl as it makes me feel like a wintery crystal.
Frequently worn outfit: A black vintage coat I got a few years ago, which will definitely not do for the months ahead and which reminds me I need to buy a parka.
Link: Yes!! I adore Pandas and love that link. Have you seen the one with the many kitties?
Guilty pleasure: very little pleasure in my life right now because I've been sick for almost two months.
Food: bad, bland food due to said sickness
bane: sickness! and doctors telling you, through nurses, that you are crazy and that your side effects are not usual and normal, therefore not real and they have nothing to do with the pile of pills he just gave you. great.
anticipation: thanksgiving so i can rest and hopefully eat something.
wishlist: to get better so i can work more efficiently and so i can go out, see people, talk to my friends, eat delicious food, have a glass of good wine, and laugh with a full smile.
random thought: the body claims attention. i give it all my attention, then life claims attention, but the body won't let go so you divide yourself and are neither here nor there. i want to live fully. i want to be present in my life fully. i want to be able to go to bed and say this was a great day and to sleep fully. fullness. that is what im thinknig about right this minute.
Book - Sunshine, by Robin McKinley and Let The Right One In, by John Ajvide Lindqvist's; both are a modern take on vampire/love story.
ReplyDeleteMusic - Lots of Cuban music. I have the desire to dance around the kitchen...
TV - Jessica Jones. I can’t get enough of it.
Perfume - Vintage Opium extrait or Tom Ford’s Moss Breches.
Makeup - My favorite look is LMdB’s Fig tightlined with Illamasqua’s Tango on the lid and into the crease, Urban Decay’s 24/7 eyeliner in Lucky smudged at the outer corners, with LMdB’s Tuscan Sunset in the middle of the lid for pop. Kind of a smoky copper/bronze look.
Frequently Worn Outfit/Item – An old Banana Republic cashmere men’s sweater in chocolate brown, beautiful color and heft. I used to love BR clothes, wish the brand would return to form.
Guilty Pleasure – Mexican Hot chocolate, with lots of whipped cream. ☺
Food – Egg nog-flavored rice pudding with an extra smidge of nutmeg.
Bane – Politics!
Joy – Cooler weather with rain and coast side walks.
Anticipation - Nine days off to rest and not think about work!
Wishlist – That people would stop behaving badly….
Random Thought – See the above wishlist…..
