Oscar de la Renta quotes:
"Fashion is about dressing according to what's fashionable. Style is more about being yourself."
"Now is the most exciting time in fashion. Women are controlling their destiny now, the consumer is more knowledgeable, and I have to be better every single day."
"The qualities I most admire in women are confidence and kindness."
"I remember a hundred years ago, I was at La Côte Basque and a lady walked in wearing a tunic pantsuit by Courrèges. The maître d' told her that ladies in pants were not allowed. So she went outside, dropped her pants, and returned in a very short dress. She was bold, cheeky, and wonderful."
"When I started, the woman went to the store to buy a dress. She saw it in pink and red, and then she remembered that the husband, who is probably going to pay for the dress, loves it in pink. So she buys the pink. Today, the same woman goes to the store and remembers the husband likes pink, and she buys the red."
He will be missed. A designer who really loved women and designing for them.
ReplyDeleteWow!! I just recently read the story of his last pre-wedding fitting with Amal Alamuddin on Vogue.com recently.... an extraordinary man.
ReplyDeleteReading of his passing this morning made me very sad. He was fantastic and iconic, and a great interior designer too. He was often featured in the shelter magazines I love to read. There's a void in the world of design.
ReplyDeleteVery sad. He wasn't just a fantastic designer, he was also an incredibly decent man - much more important at the end of the day. Am so glad he was able to design Amal's dress.
ReplyDeleteAnna
He knew how to make a woman look beautiful. He has been a favorite of mine since I can remember. Look at any of his designs on vogue.com and everyone looks stunning in his creations. I love those quotes.
