Book
I finished two this week: The Cuckoo's Calling by J.K. Rowling as Robert Galbraith which I started and abandoned when it first came out, only to come back to it now before reading the sequel. It's a well-written mystery with some noir overtones. The other one was The Book Of Life by Deborah Harkness, the conclusion to the All Souls Trilogy. I won't get into it other than to say I was disappointed. Maybe that's what I deserve for reading a vampire story.
Music
We Didn't Mean to Go to Sea by Declan O'Rourke
Something To Believe by Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan
TV
There's absolutely nothing to watch on TV.
Perfume
Rozy by Vero Profumo. It's beautiful, magical, and puts to shame most other new releases.
Makeup
NARS Subra Dual Intensity eye shadow.
Frequently Worn Outfit/Item
Little cotton cardigans over just about everything.
Food
Bobby Flay's roasted cauliflower dish that's served at his restaurant Gato. It comes in a peppery sweet and sour marinade, and is probably the best cauliflower I've ever had. We keep ordering it hoping to figure out the secret, but no luck this far.
Shame Inducing Guilty Pleasure
Skipping lunch in favor of consuming scary amounts of watermelon.
Bane
The side effects of Benadryl.
Joy
Happy, healthy kittens. Kate and Philip are doing wonderfully.
Anticipation
Nick Cave concert next weekend. Mark Lanegan is the opening act.
Wishlist
I could use more maxi dresses.
Random Thought
(For those who read or intending to read the Book of Life) Still better than Renesmee.

Watching HBO Sunday lineup next to sleeping cats and thinking really hard what scent to wear to Nick Cave concert in DC on Wednesday.. ;) I don;t have any Australian perfume available, sadly - I almost got a sample of one of Tommi Soomi's perfumes when buying Hiram Green's Moon Bloom last week, and now I wish I had. I may end up wearing Moon Bloom with a drop of tea tree oil, I certainly have a lot of that in stock.
ReplyDeleteLook at those kitties! They look healthy and happy :)
ReplyDeleteAll your kitties are so beautiful but Philip is especially mesmerizing with those eyes! Oh dear, I had downloaded the Book of Life but I haven't started reading it yet, I guess I may wait a while longer. Makeup-wise I'm playing around with some Nudestix colors. I have some eye crayons and a magnetic eye color, the crayons are a disaster on oily lids without a primer but with it are beautiful for a natural look. I like the lip & cheek color too.
ReplyDeleteI love your two new furr babies! *Squish*
ReplyDeleteI heard Bobby Flay also has a cat named Taco. Happy little tidbit of news, it seems he is a kitty cat lover too!
Gino and Smoky send their hellos.
I'm just wondering how you get established kitties to accept new kitties in a NY apartment.
ReplyDeleteMarsha, I actually live in a house in NJ, just outside the city. Thankfully we have enough space so everyone is comfortable.
DeleteAh, okay. I'll bet the younger ones have lots of fun chasing each other around! But I still especially adore the story of Bob because I still have a sweet memory of a male ginger tabby.
DeleteI love your kitty pics! Kate and Philip are adorable.
ReplyDeleteI am also reading the Book of Life. I am disappointed that it doesn't get better, but I can't put it down.
I have the post-vacation Monday blues. It does not help that it is dreary and raining out. Think I may have to order a sample of Rozy to brighten up my day. I would order some fall make up, but still trying to narrow down my list.
Book
ReplyDeleteI'm finishing up Anne Roiphe's "1185 Park Avenue," which has been just brilliant. Planning on tackling Marshall Berman's "The Politics of Authenticity" next, which has been on my to-read list since undergrad.
Music
Fink's latest album. He doesn't get enough attention in the US, and his voice is one of the most soulful and sexiest out there.
TV
I just don't watch TV. Next question...
Perfume
Oh man, besides Rozy!? Still obsessing over Bogue Maai, and today I'm coated in Amouage Gold Woman.
Makeup
Good lord, are those new Milani eyeshadow singles greaaaaat! The Taupe one is the most perfect neutral-to-cool matte shade.
Frequently Worn Outfit/Item
Tank tops and little cardigans.
Food
I've been on a buffet kick lately. All the meat!
Shame Inducing Guilty Pleasure
Read above. Also, the amount of money I've spent at Gamestop lately. And I'm $100 away from becoming a Sephora VIB Rouge member, eek.
Bane
Too much to even write. I'll stick with the heat.
Joy
Air-conditioning and iced coffee. Jon makes the BEST iced coffee. The perks of dating a restaurant manager...
Anticipation
Meeting your new kittens. An ice-cream competition on Sunday. Meeting a dear internet friend tonight. My day off tomorrow.
Wishlist
I need shoes, and new bras, and all the books!
Random Thought
Why is fruit so expensive?
Those kitties are adorable. They look sweet (though I know better than to call a kitten sweet - they certainly also have mischievous sides!). I will be picking up Book of Life soon, just because I'm a completionist. I though the first book was a wonderful beach read, but I had to force myself to finish the second one, I thought it was tedious and unfocused.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading Atwood's Year of the Flood, the second in her dystopian trilogy. I've only just begun it, but I'm already dreading the end, I enjoy her writing so much. Also reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks for book club.
Your "Currently" posts are my favorite. I like them both for the recs, but also the rhythm of your writing, and also the feeling of getting insight to another person's mind.
Hello there. I'm currently reading There Goes Gravity-A Life in Rock & Roll by Lisa Robinson. It's fun, so far, for an old person like myself to reminisce. Next comes The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton. My music is all over the place, but usually settles back in the 60s/70s (see "old" comment above). TV, heaven help me, is still reruns of Law & Order SVU and live, local, breaking news. I have really enjoyed Guerlain's Terracotta this summer as well as Parfums de Nicolai Musc Monoi (unexpectedly). For makeup, I'm right there with you, Gaia, on the NARS dual-intensity eye shadows. I got Subra, Himalia, Giove, and Desdemona...all luscious. I've also enjoyed those little Beach Tints in the pots by Becca. Outfits all based around fat black...ergo food, guilt, bane, and joy are lumped together and will not be discussed at this time. I anticipate Autumn down South because it is so very beautiful and wonderful. And now that you mention maxi dresses, I'd love to have some that are about six inches longer in the back for reasons possibly guessed, but not disclosed. My closing, random thought is that three of our cats and one of our dogs are getting way up in years, and I have a strange longing for new kittens. God bless.

Thanks for the photos of Kate and Philip! Adorable beyond words. Again, am so very glad they got to stay together - it's clear how much they love each other.
ReplyDeleteAnna
Thanks, Anna. The second we started playing with them there was no question that Kate and Philip must remain together. They have the sweetest relationship and are an endless source of heart-melting cuteness.
