Givenchy Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow 5 Taupe Velours
It's kind of funny how ugly taupe can look when not actually on the skin. The color of the new Givenchy Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow in 5 Taupe Velours is particularly unappetizing sitting there in its little jar, but we all know that this is a wonderful color to sculpt the eye and create depth. Givenchy Taupe Velours is as taupe as they come, completely neutral and incredibly versatile.
Givenchy Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow is a new product with an interesting velvety texture and a matte finish. I like it a lot and wear it easily, but since the product leans dry and the finish is somewhat flat I'd say that if your eyelids are visibly lined this might emphasize the texture instead of smoothing it. This cream eye shadow is closer in texture to the cream (no shimmer) Long Wearing ones from Bobbi Brown than to Ellis Faas. Givenchy offers Ombre Couture in eight colors plus one glitter top coat (not going there). I started with the obvious, but you know that next I'll buy the navy blue one.
Givenchy suggests that you apply the cream shadow with your finger. It definitely works, but I prefer using a brush, and not necessarily a synthetic one. I've found that anything from MAC 217 to several Hakuhodo brushes give a smooth application and an even finish. You don't need to do much blending, at least in this color. I'll let you know how bolder shades such as 4 Bleu Soie fares once I get it.
Because Ombre Couture is so dry, the eye shadow sets immediately. It takes mere seconds and then the color doesn't move. It's very long lasting, and while I haven't tested just how waterproof it is, I can tell you it's weather-proof. That's kind of important in April.
Bottom Line: for the smooth-lidded.
Givenchy Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow ($23) is available from Barneys and Sephora.
Very beautiful color!
