There's no doubt that Rihanna is a fashion icon of sorts. She is very fashion conscious and has houses from Balmain to Carven on speed dial, so I guess it makes sense in a way for the Council of Fashion Designers of America to award her for her "tremendous impact on pop culture around the world". Does this impact have to be even remotely tasteful? Apparently not. After all, alongside Nicole Kidman and Iman, past recipients also include Lady Gaga.
Above is your fashion icon as seen last Thursday in Santa Monica. Hey, the sneakers are Givenchy.

She should be ashamed.
ReplyDeleteIt rather looks like random articles of clothing (the term used loosely) were just thrown on. Rihanna is not my favorite although on occasion she does wear some interesting looks.
ReplyDeleteShe forgot her slip.
ReplyDeleteLooks like something I'd wear back in my 1990's South Beach clubbing days, way back when my body could take this kind of exposure. Nonetheless, this was still "beachwear" or clubwear, not streetwear. In her defense, at least she's rockin' the right shoes. I would've gone way overboard with some badass, high-heeled combat boots that are still collecting dust in my closet and probably shouldn't. Hmmm ... does that mean Rihanna may have inspired my next rock concert ensemble? I'll let you know just how influential she really is after I go see Lorde in Vegas next month. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThis bothers me far less than the April cover of Vogue.
ReplyDeleteLooked at this a few times to make sure I wasn't judging from a standpoint of age. Nope. My teen, early 20s self would have felt the same way about it. Tastelessness is timeless, ageless.
ReplyDeleteAnna
Oh puhleeze. I mean, I do really like Rhianna - I think she's a talented musician. But style icon? Really?
ReplyDeleteNot my fashion icon.
ReplyDeleteIt's really CDFA who should be ashamed. nozknoz
