Medieval by Lipstick Queen is more of a tinted balm than a lipstick, despite the glorious bright red color you see in the tube. It's basically a moisturizing product that pampers the lips and feels smooth and soft , with the extra benefit of staining the lips in a pretty red shade that can be built and enhanced a little. Don't let the ultra sheer and pale swatch discourage you: it shows better on darker lips, and two coats of Medieval are definitely noticeable.
Poppy King created Medieval as a sensual yet sort of natural look, inspired by the days when artificial makeup was frowned upon. I'm not sure I really want to celebrate Medieval times and their idea of femininity, but I do like this lip product, both for its color and for the formula (unscented, by the way).

I found this terribly drying but, as always, YMMV. Fresh's Tinted Lip Treatment in Sugar Passion is a great substitute.
ReplyDeleteI find it a bit drying, too, but it's still my go-to color almost every day. It gives me red lips without an obvious "red lipstick" look. It gives shine without being a gloss.
ReplyDeleteI also have the Fresh Sugar balm, but it doesn't change my lip color, whereas Medieval visibly brightens my look.
Have you tried Sugar Passion? The regular Sugar Balm, and even Sugar Rose, don't change my lip color, but Cherry, Berry, Passion, and Plum do. Passion is extremely similar to Medieval in color.
