I was invited to contribute an article to Bond NY magazine (nothing to do with a certain perfume brand that
this blog doesn't cover) on the subject of smelling like a New Yorker. It ended up being more difficult than I anticipated, but I think I came up with a reasonably decent answer.
You can read it here. The old Norell ad (via Hprints.com) has nothing to do with it, by the way.
Ah, now if only someone would come up with a perfume that smelled like that new apartment smell....
ReplyDeleteI think you rose to the challenge, Gaia! I'm captivated by your description of Aroma M Geisha Noire as "sort of an Alexander McQueen-wearing Shalimar" - definitely NYC, that, and I MUST try it!
ReplyDeleteI also think My Indian Childhood by Brooklyn-based D.S. & Durga is quintessential melting pot New York. They don't make that one anymore, but all their scents sound so original in a way that seems very NYC. nozknoz
Lovely article, Gaia! Well done!

What a pleasure to read! I especially loved your description of the "very blonde triangle between Bergdorf, Barneys, and Bendel." Perfectly put.
