Summer 2013: My Most Worn Perfumes

We're halfway through August and there's already a subtle change in the air, which you can feel (and smell) at night. It's a good opportunity to have a look and figure out what were my most worn perfumes of the summer, beyond the numerous samples I've been testing. Here are the fragrances I kept spritzing when left to my own devices:

2013 Releases:
Tauer Perfumes- Noontide Petals
Le Labo- Lys 41 and Ylang 49
Mona di Orio- Eau Absolue
Serge Lutens- La Fille de Berlin
Providence Perfume Company- Mousseline Peche

No surprises there. Some of my favorite perfume houses that did great things this year.

Perennial Favorites:
Guerlain- Shalimar Light and Philtre d'Amour
Chanel- No.5, No.5 Eau Premier, No.19
Shiseido- Zen (original formula, vintage)

These are staples. Chanel and Guerlain are among my desert island picks. Their familiar sillage is comfortable and reassuring, like a favorite pair of shoes. I just picked some extra vintage Zen at an estate sale, so I've been going to town splashing it.

Beautiful florals, mostly white:
Aftelier- Secret Garden
Arquiste- Flor y Canto
Tom Ford Private Blend- Champaca Absolute
Vero Profumo- Mito
Histoires de Parfums- Tubereuse 3
Ines de la Fressange- Ines de la Fressange (1999 version)

I had the best sillage in town.

Miscellaneous:
Parfums Gres- Cabaret. A dry rose chypre that makes flip-flops feel likea pair Manolos.
Guerlain- Eau de Cologne Imperiale. I poured it on the day the a/c died and kept going back.
Neela Vermiere- Bombay Bling and Trayee. Because this is love.

What have you been wearing? Are you ready for fall?

  1. I loved wearing vintage O d' Lancome, Eau de Patou and Aliage over the summer. Our San Francisco fall weather is one of the warmer times of the year, I enjoy wearing vintage Eau Sauvage, Anais Anais or Sonoma Scent Studio's Jour Ensoleille for cooler fall evenings.

  2. This summer I have about five fragrances in constant rotation:

    Seville a l"Aube
    Jour d'Hermes
    Histoires de Parfums 1969
    Mon Precieux Nectar
and the seasonal paradox, Mitzah. I love some incense and patch in the summer. They make me swoon.

  3. I've been wearing Azuree (Estee Lauder) a lot when the weather here in the South is HOT. For a few days now, while the weather is rather cool, I've used one of my favorites...Bottega Veneta...and even layered it with my sample of Le Labo Cuir 28 with very nice results. I only tolerate Summer. I am always ready for Fall, and especially Winter. Thanks for your informative blog which I found via PerfumeShrine. I've already tried several of your product recommendations with good results.

  4. I've been reading for a while your blog and love your accurate reviews, specially the ones on perfumes. Please keep them coming.
Summer is still on together with temperature above 30°C. For several years now, I wear Chanel n°19 during summer. Not the n°19 poudre they came up with lately, the original one. I hate when they want to revisit a classic and end up only making a not so related version of the original one.

  5. I love your choices. Everyone around you was lucky! My summer choices were quite Hermes-centric this year. Got a bottle of Voyage d'Hermes, which was perfect for steamy days (along with my usual summer favorite, Strange Invisible Perfumes Pelopponesian); fell back in love with Un Jardin Sur Le Nil, which I hadn't revisited in years; and spent most evenings in one of my long-standing perfume loves, Osmanthe Yunnan. The outlier was a Chanel: I couldn't get enough of Cuir de Russie this summer! I think of it as a cool-weather scent but it really worked in the heat for me this year.

  6. This summer my most worn scent has been Les Parfums de Rosine Rose d'Amour (discontinued) - an effervescent green rose scent.

The second place goes to Miller Harris Coeur d'été (also discontinued), which I got last summer. A cosy oddball: lilac teamed with gourmandish notes.

One of the scents I have enjoyed most this summer is Ormonde Jayne Frangipani Absolute: lush, "wet" green Floral. I used up my sample and now it's on the top of my wishlist.

  7. I love the vintage swimsuit photos! The Rochas Tocade bottle could have been inspired by the first.

I've been wearing L'AP Vanille Absolument (ex Havana Vanille), Seville a l'Aube, Iris Pallida and Puredistance !. ~~nozknoz

  8. I too have been really loving Noontide Petals this summer. I've also been rolling through Jovoy Paris samples and one cool evening in San Francisco I wore Tabac Citron to a soccer game and my husband said I smelled lovely. :-)

  9. I have enjoyed Jungle Gardenia, the current version, purchased earlier this year from that certain retro retailer in Vermont. The initial burst is not expensive smelling, but I think it does some interesting things as time goes on, and ends as a nice sweet floral. I read the the review of Avon Timeless, and tried and like it, so I wonder if The Non-Blonde might find goodness in Jungle Gardenia.

Really learning useful things from the site - thanks.
