This post is for a couple of readers who recently emailed to ask me either about finding a perfect everyday sheer red lipstick or about replacing this particular color, RD629 Natural Red from Shiseido Perfect Rouge Tender Sheer range. RD629 Natural Red is discontinued but for the time being you can still order it from Shiseido's Final Call section of the website (scroll down to the bottom of the screen on their home page and look for "Final Cal" in the footer).
I love Shiseido's Perfect Rouge Tender Sheer formula because it's light and glossy yet rich in pigment. And as many fans have noticed, RD629 Natural Red is, indeed, a perfect daytime color that still makes a nice statement. Shiseido colors always seem to be thoughtfully conceived and balanced just so. It's a shame that this lovely shade is being phased out, so I'd say get it while you still can. Still, my readers Maryann, Jenn and Linda would like your help in finding something similar to their holy grail. Please chime in if you have suggestions.
I'm loving Fresh Sugar Passion Lip Treatment (easy to control the intensity) and NARS Baroque (a little more deep raspberry on me) for daytime reds. There's also Lipstick Queen's Medieval, which is nice but went rancid on me pretty quickly.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great!
ReplyDeleteI really like the formula of the Revlon Lip Butters and that swatch looks a little like the Red Velvet shade. At $6 or so it's worth a shot!
ReplyDeleteI forgot about Laura Mercier Pomegranate. Another great daytime red and it's a Stickgloss, so it's easy to control the intensity.
ReplyDeleteTry Rouge Bunny Rouge Murmurings
ReplyDeleteI second the Red Velvet lip butter recommendation. The formula and colours are very good.
ReplyDeleteI have one I LOVE ...Wild Shine lipstick in #923, it's made by Wet 'n Wild and it costs $2.99
ReplyDeleteGo out and buy it tomorrow!
I have loved sheer reds for years and had so many of them discontinued ... so I'm stockpiling this gem. It's a perfect neutral red and unlike some sheer lipsticks it doesn't travel or smudge easily. AND ... it's dirt cheap. I've worked as a makeup artist for several companies and I don't care about price at all anymore. I use the same criteria for makeup regardless of how much it costs. The packaging isn't even bad on this one, it's a long, slender, squared off tube with a clear long cap. It doesn't roll around which is nice.
There are other colors in this particular formula but I like this one the best by far.
Thanks, Everyone! There are some fabulous suggestions here that I'll have to check, and I definitely agree about RBR Murmurings; it's one of my all time favorites.
