Stromboli was one of the original eye makeup shades released by Dolce & Gabbana and used in several products: eye shadow duo, quad, and eyeliner. It's a glamorous rich black with tiny gold flecks of glitter. Stromboli eye shadow is a baked formula (most of the other Dolce & Gabbana eye shadows aren't) that I find frustrating unless applied with a damp brush. D&G Stromboli Crayon Intense Eyeliner is more or less the same thing in a pencil format, including the hard texture.
The pencil tugs a little when applied, so I much prefer working it on the back of my hand and picking the warmed up product with a pencil brush. It is wasteful, though, and confines the use of this Dolce & Gabbana pencil to smudged smoky looks. The result is pretty, but I'm not sure it's worth the hassle. Take note that the glitter particles make Stromboli unsuitable for use on the waterline, unlike other pencils in the Crayon in the Crayon Intense range (there are some extraordinary shades there, such as Green Almond, that have a much friendlier texture). Dolce & Gabbana also offer a regular khol eye pencil for the inner rim.
The hard texture does ensure nice longevity. Even smudged, once the product sets over my primer it remains in place and the glitter doesn't migrate. I'm not a huge fan, but I can appreciate the idea behind it. I still wish for a more luxurious texture.
Bottom Line: you can do better.
Dolce & Gabbana- Stromboli Crayon Intense Eyeliner ($30) is available from Saks 5th Avenue and Sephora. The product for this review was a press sample.
Stromboli is my favorite eye pencil ever - because of its Lasting power. I very much appreciate its formula (you called it "baked formula"), and I don't have any problem to use it directly on my eyes. I put it on in the morning and it stay put for the day. There is hardly any other eye pencil out there I could say the same. And the colour is gorgeous too ! I was pretty disappointed to find out that the other D&G eye pencils are of a different formula...
