NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner: Madison Avenue, Rue Saint-Honoré, Via Veneto

I figured it's time we have a look at the more conventional colors of NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner pencils (I already reviewed the newest shade, the gorgeous mint green Barrow Street that came out as part of NARS Summer 2013 collection). These are hard working pencils, wonderfully soft and equally long-lasting (you need a heavy duty makeup remover to take them off). The Larger Than Life pencils survive allergies and rainy days, are pliable enough to be used all over the lid as a base for powder eye shadows and are all around awesome.

Madison Avenue is a dark matte gray, Rue Saint-Honoré is a shimmer royal blue, and Via Veneto is one of the blackest blacks and gives an excellent competition to long time favorites such as Lancome black kohl pencil. Since I have no issue with oily lids, using a primer cements the pigment to my skin and prevents unwanted smudging and migrating. The liners are reliable and make excellent travel companions, as long as you don't leave them anywhere hot enough for the product to melt and break-- they really are that soft. The pencils don't need sharpening- you twist the end to expose more product. If you do break the tip and it becomes too blunt, just reshape with your fingers and let them cool and set.

NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner: Madison Avenue, Rue Saint-Honoré, Via Veneto ($24 each) are available at the counters, Sephora and from narscosmetics.com. The products in this review were sent to me free of charge by the company.

  1. I have to say I would be more willing to explore NARS eye and lip pencils if they were in a twist up delivery system. For the price and quality of actual product, they need to rethink the packaging. For those who don't mind having to sharpen manually with each application, they sound wonderful. I will stick with Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks, which are a great product at a decent price point with wonderful efficient delivery systems.

  3. These sound remarkably good; my heart always fails me when I realise how quickly and often great pencils need sharpening ...Just experienced that with a smart new Clarins grey; good colour, good texture, good line, but where's my sharpener when I need it. I was contemplating returning only to pens, but might try one of these instead.

  4. Well that black one look so lovely, exactly what I'm looking for in a black pencil, the darker the better! It's going on my list. :)

  5. I now have a powerful craving for Rue Saint-Honore. Which is completely irrational, since I just bought Urban Decay Sabbath to fill my navy eyeliner niche...
