About three years ago I had several samples of Guerlain Issima Midnight Secret Late Night Recovery Treatment. I used up the sample and decided that I really liked it-- the product had a light texture but provided a nice moisturizing and plumping effect. My notes also mention that it helped with sallowness. By the time I finished testing and was ready to buy I discovered that every Guerlain counter in the area was out and the Midnight Secret Recovery Treatment was also unavailable online. I kept asking at my local Bloomingdale's, but at first they didn't know what was up and later told me it was discontinued. I moved on.
Last fall I was thrilled to see Guerlain Midnight Secret Late Night Recovery Treatment back in stock everywhere. Guerlain rebranded their skincare line and got rid of the Issima line, but brought back the Midnight Secret product (not sure if the formula was changed). I got a bottle and started using it a couple of nights a week. I don't know if I should blame my skin, my memory or Guerlain, but it's no longer as awesome as I remembered. While it is a very pleasant light moisturizer that sinks into the skin right away and doesn't leave any residue behind, I can't say it does anything else or that I see any difference in the morning. That's even more apparent compared to just about anything else in my beauty cabinet, especially creams and serums rich in active ingredients. I also find the fragrance in Guerlain Midnight Secret Late Night Recovery Treatment too strong and jarring, and that's rarely happens to me.
So my impression on my 42 year old skin is that while Guerlain Midnight Secret Late Night Recovery Treatment is a decent light moisturizer if that's what you're after, it has little to offer as far as a real treatment goes. Considering its price and Guerlain's promises ("Repairs skin at night and counteracts signs of fatigue") I'd expect much more.
Bottom Line: sub-par.
