Dior Diorshow Mono Eye Shadows: Nude, Grege, Khol

Yesterday I gave you a quick overview of the colors in the brand new Dior Diorshow Mono eye shadow range. Today we're taking a look at the three matte ones: Nude, Grege, and Khol. According to Dior the formula is wet/dry, which I always suspect is a code name for inferior color payoff. It's sort of true in the case of Diorshow Mono in the sense that some of the shades don't come into their full potential unless used with a damp brush. The light colors are also of low intensity and absolutely require a good primer/base, preferably of a creamy-sticky nature (Sensai, Paula Dorf, , even a MAC Paint Pot).

Nude is exactly as the name implies. It doesn't show any pigment on the lid, but unlike similar products (Bobbi Brown Navajo comes to mind) it's not a translucent nothing and actually does make a difference on the lid as a base, evening out my lids (they're naturally quite dark). Dior Nude doesn't show up as an actual color even when damp, but it is an effective eye shadow nonetheless.

Grege was an utter disappointment when used dry. It's only a shade darker than Nude and slightly warmer than I anticipated from its name. However, it does a complete about face when used damp over a good base. Using Nude and Grege together gave me a perfect Le No Makeup look: Nude all over, Grege in the crease (apply with Paula Dorf Sheer Crease brush or a Hakuhodo G5517) and outer corner and add a touch of Khol along the lash line.

This brings us to Khol, the matte black. It's actually more of an off-black when dry, bust used wet with an angled eyeliner brush it gives a very French matte deep espresso black line. I'm very happy with it because I've completely used up an ancient Dior quint recently that had a similar color, so it's a great replacement.

I have to say that the entire Diorshow Mono would have made a marvelous neutral palette that could have been a major best seller for Dior. I'm curious as to why they chose to release these as singles but I don't really mind.

Dior Diorshow Mono Eye Shadows ($29 each) are already available from Nordstrom online. I assume they'll arrive at counters everywhere in the next couple of weeks.

  1. Thanks for the tip on Grege! That's the one I have my eye on (as if I need another neutral shadow).
