Book
This morning I finished Where'd You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple. A quirky novel about quirky character with some funny social commentary about Seattle, a city as exotic to me as Bangkok ("There are two hairstyles here: short gray hair and long gray hair."). Then, prompted by a perfume conversation with a friend, I downloaded the first Nancy Drew book. It's been about 33 years since I read these books (I used to love them dearly), so I was curious to see how bad it really is. Well, not as bad as Enid Blyton's book. That has to be worth something.

I'm on an oatmeal BINGE. It's been going on for months. The real stuff, steel-cut, made on the stove, with half water half milk. I also add a spoonful of chopped walnuts and a ton of cinnamon. Delish!
ReplyDeleteGreat minds have definitely turned in similar directions this month. I've been enjoying oatmeal as muesli. Do you remember The Secret of Shadow Ranch, with the mysterious "ghost" horse and a cover pic of Nancy on a black horse? I found a vintage copy and plan to reread it during my staycation. My bane is finding time for work, exercise, errands, keeping up with my favorite perfume blogs AND sleeping. I'm tired! ~~nozknoz

Come out to Seattle ;) I'll give you a tour.
ReplyDeleteThis dusk at 2 pm and "middle of the night" at 5 pm is killing me right now. It's impacting my food cravings, my clothes...all in a negative way, of course. Except that I'm craving highlighters too. I need something illuminating in my life!

Random Thought: How much Woodford's will I need for the holiday?
Anon-If you like Woodford's Reserve, try Basil Hayden Bourbon. It's a very smooth small batch bourbon made by the producers of Jim Beam. It has notes of honey and spice with very little bite, perfect for sipping.
DeleteBook - A Game of Thrones, by George R.R. Martin.
ReplyDeletePerfume - DSH Cimabue or Samsara vintage extrait. Mysore Sandalwood is so absolutely beautiful. I used to have a bottle of the essential oil 20 or so years ago.
Makeup - I’m trying out highlighters and illuminators. Recently tried items include MAC’s Naked Pigment which I use with a golden-toned taupe for the eyes and NARS highlighting blush powder in Albatros (too much shimmer). I’m going to try Laura Mercier’s Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer next.
Frequently Worn Item/Outfit - Cashmere anything.
Food - I’m making a lot of rice, lentils and quinoa dishes and Persian dishes. Mostly vegetarian and very healthy.
Guilty Pleasure – Yoga, I used to practice several times a week and I treasure my time on the mat.
Bane - Teenagers, all 100 of them (I employ students at a University). That and extremely dry skin and hair. We’re talking Lizard-like here.
Joy - I’ve found (finally) my vintage bottle of Chanel No 5 vintage edc, now to find some vintage Coco extrait or Sikkim extrait. It’s like finding the proverbial unicorn. Nearly impossible.
Anticipation - My holiday break from school, it’s been a tough year.
Wishlist-That my rockstar employee finds a new job. She’s bright and hard working and ready for the next level.
Where do you get your zip-up hoodies? I've been looking to add a couple more since the ones I have are starting to come apart!
ReplyDeleteJ.Crew and Neiman Marcus.
