If you've visited this blog before, you may have noticed that I really like amber perfumes. I like amber when it's just one note of many, and I love it straight up. The warmth, the sweetness, the way amber perfumes develop on my skin- there's nothing else like it. I could have easily created a top 30 or top 20 list, but that's exactly why I'm limiting myself to the ten ambers I wear most often and/or ones that are very high on my wishlist.
In no particular order, other than the first one:
1. Tauer Perfumes- L'Air du Desert Marocain. This is obviously a lot more than just amber. Andy Tauer bottled a piece of my soul.
2. Serge Lutens- Ambre Sultan. The sultan of niche ambers. Vegetal and chewy on top, dreamy all around.
3. Tom Ford Private Blend- Amber Absolute. I can't wrap my mind around the fact they discontinued this gem.
4. Mona di Orio-Les Nombres d'Or Ambre. Everything that woman did was magic.
5. Parfum d'Empire- Ambre Russe. Booze and amber that go straight to one's head.
6. Ginestet- Botrytis. A spicy honey with a strong amber spine and base. A not so guilty pleasure.
7. Annick Goutal- Ambre Fetiche. Smoke and incense. Utterly stunning.
8. Aroma M- Geisha Noire. One of few perfumes that have truly earned the "noir" in their name.
9. Isabey L'Ambre di Carthage Technically this is a masculine perfume. An amber from the No Vanilla zone.
10. Nobile 1942- Ambra Nobile. This amber appeared in my life just when I thought I was all ambered out and proved that you can never have enough good ones.
Honorable mention goes to Guerlain Tonka Imperiale, MPG Ambre Precieux, Histoires de Parfums Ambre 114, Regina Harris Amber Vanilla, Madini Ambargris, Keiko Mecheri Ambre Mirabilis, and Estee Lauder Amber-Ylan Ylang.

What do you think of the Escentrics perfumes? I think that it's Molecule no. 2 that's just amber.
ReplyDeleteDelicious list! I have a little bit of the Tom Ford AA- of all the ones they had to drop from the line, why that one?!
ReplyDeleteOf the others on your list I have tried, I totally agree with your choices(of course!) but I still need to try several of them. You can't go wrong with Ambre Sultan, though.
I've been using Ambre Fetiche for two years now and I absolutely love it. I always receive compliments about it. I've tried other amber-based fragrance, though not all on the list, but this is the one where the amber comes out strongest

I'm so happy to find someone else that loves Botrytis!
ReplyDeleteAmber is one of my favorite notes in perfumery, and one I tend to wear quite frequently around the Holidays. I love many of the scents that are on your list. Ginestet sounds amazing, I will have to try this one for sure!
ReplyDeleteA very easy to wear and gateway Amber for me is Cote' Bastide Ambre edt splash. I discovered it about 16 years ago and it's been in my wardrobe ever since. Very easy to wear Amber. Their scented amber rocks are beautiful and discreetly scent a room.
I sampled Ambra Nobile because of your review, Gaia, and ended up with a FB - I love it! I often find ambers to sweet or boring, but Ambra Nobile is just right. ~~nozknoz
ReplyDeleteIm new to the amber realm and I just ordered Gale Haymens Delicious Amber as I read great reviews. I tried and love her Delicious Vanilla and got a lot of compliments on it and I see the Delicious Amber is being bought up. I hope it turns out to be my autumn staple.
ReplyDeleteHello! I love your blog, by the way. I was searching for perfumes with Amber, since it's one of my favorite fragrances for Bath oils room sprays, etc. I live in Florida, an unforgivably sweaty climate, but love rich fragrances, Amber being among my favorites. What Amber perfume would you recommend for me?
ReplyDeleteAny of the ones I mentioned can work. I recommend ordering samples and working your way through them so you can find The One.
DeleteI recently fell in love with Agonist Black Amber. I was so surprised it wasn't headache inducing and even pleasant. Would you happen to know any perfumes similar to that? I am beyond a perfume newb. Heck, the one I wear is a light scent (lasts like 30 mins) and I don't even wear it everyday because I am not huge on perfumes. I get a lot of samples but a lot are headache inducing and I just cannot stand to smell it on myself. Nonetheless, this is the first perfume, I have remotely cared for in a long time.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Dior's Ambre Nuit?
ReplyDeletePrada Amber...yummmmm
ReplyDeleteYves rochers Voile d'Amber? an inexpensive but very nice treat!
