Chantecaille Protection Naturelle SPF 46 Loose Powder

Last month I finished another tube of Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral sunblock and decided to upgrade. I've had my eye on Chantecaille Protection Naturelle SPF 46 Loose Powder ever since it came out a couple of years ago. While I use an SPF under my makeup, it's important to reapply throughout the day, which requires a different strategy. This is where sunblock powders come into play: you don't need to wipe away your makeup and start over. Just add another layer of high SPF finishing powder.

Chantecaille Protection Naturelle SPF 46 Loose Powder is exactly that, and since this is an extremely fine powder with a slightly beige tint it really works as a finishing powder that melts into the skin and protects it. The product is completely invisible and doesn't affect the way my makeup looks underneath. It's easy to distribute and apply. The (refillable) tube with the built-in brush is travel friendly and ideal on the go; as far as I can tell the SPF 46 is wonderfully effective and I've come to rely on it for quick touch-ups.

I wish there was a better method other than the tap and shake to get the product out. I can tell it's more than a little wasteful as some of the powder scatters in the air. I wonder why there's no pressed powder version of the same thing. That way we'd be able to choose a puff or a brush of our liking, instead of the somewhat rough one that's part of the structure. The Chantecaille built-in brush sheds a couple of hairs with each application, and is definitely not in the same league as any of my favorite Kabuki brushes. Still, the quality of the powder and the convenience are unbeatable, so Chantecaille Protection Naturelle SPF 46 Loose Powder is my constant companion these days.

Chantecaille Protection Naturelle SPF 46 Loose Powder ($72 for the whole thing, the refills are nicely priced at $33) is available from select department stores and online.

  1. I'm so glad to hear you like this. I've been using PTR as well but I don't LOVE it. I've had a great track record with Chantecaille before so I may have to check this out next time. I found that my PTR brush also sheds so it must have something to do with the self dispensing brush. Oh well!

  2. Also, this Chantecaille design is so much more beautiful than PTR's.

  3. I have been toting this around with me for two years and think it is a wonderful way to renew my SPF without any buildup or disturbance to my makeup. I don't care for the brush dispenser; however, so I just buy the refill. I transfer it to a small container with a sifter and carry a separate brush. Since I don't carry a lot of other makeup with me, it's not a big deal. As for comparing this to the PTR, in my opinion there is no comparison. Chantecaille's SPF powder is like a top-of-the-line finishing powder that enhances the complexion with a very subtle glow. It's an elegant alternative to carrying a tube of sunscreen around with you and having to re-do your makeup.
