Sisley- Eau de Campagne
Every time I wear Eau de Campagne by Sisley from a random sample or a store tester I ask myself why I don't own a bottle of this stuff. Ninety minutes later, when all trace of Eau de Campagne is gone I remember: oh, that. Longevity, right. But for the glorious hour when the 1974 Jean-Claude Ellena creation for Sisley is alive and well on my skin all is good and green in the world.
The first thing I smell in Eau de Campagne is galbanum. Sharp, green, and bitter, and for a brief second I'm in Vent Vert's universe. But Eau de Campagne brightens quickly into a sunny lemon and herbs composition. When I'm lucky and the fragrance doesn't explode too quickly into tiny green crystalline drops I also get the promised tomato leaf (note to self: experiment with layering Eau de Campagne with Christopher Brosius's tomato leaf accord). Mostly, this Sisley fragrance smells like something to toss with sliced avocado, and I mean it in the best possible way.
I never tried Eau de Campagne in its original 1970s form. I'll go out on a limb and guess that the oakmoss was far more pronounced, and perhaps the entire base of the fragrance was more solid. I don't know if it was darker or dirtier: the ad campaign seem to have always stress the sporty, sunny, horsey and golfy lifestyle (then again, so did Aliage). The current version reminds me a little of Cristalle EDT the way I seem to remember it from days of yore. Eau de Campagne sparkles and shines. It's a quick mood enhancer, just plan to either reapply often or change into a perfume with no commitment issues.
Notes: bergamot, galbanum, lemon, basil, tomato leaves, plum, jasmine, geranium, lily-of-the-valley, oak moss, patchouli, vetiver, white musk.
Eau de Campagne by Sisley ($97, 1.6 EDT) is available from Neiman Marcus and other select department stores.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI had been wearing Eau de Campagne for the last 11 years and I can say it stays in my skin the whole day, (I'm a lucky girl as almost everything, every Eau de toilette stays for the whole day from 7'00 AM to 11'00 PM). Anyway I have realised there have been three different eaux under the name "Eau de Campagne", the first 1970 stuff was reformulated by 2004 and had become greener and the stay power had been increased, I loved it!!! Unfortunately it had been reformulated anew by 2009 and the new Eau de Toilette really disappoints me, it is more lemony, less grassy and both the staying power and the longevity are not so good. I continue wearing the 2004 variant as I have a stock of 7-8 bottles, one can still buy the 250-ml bottles in Madrid in the big department store called El Corte Inglés.
Best Regards, I love your blog, I read it almost every day.
