Nature's Gate Organics Shampoo and Conditioner

A couple of months ago I was curious to see what else is out there in terms of shampoo and conditioner. On a whim, I added Nature's Gate Organics Herbal Blends Soothing Shampoo in Tea Tree & Blue Cypress and Herbal Blends Moisturizing Conditioner in Chamomile & Lemon Verbana to my usual Drugstore.com order. Then I gave the products several weeks to show me what they can do.

My hair is very strong and healthy, but my scalp is ridiculously sensitive. A large percentage of styling products give me a severe allergic reaction that makes me want to crawl out of my scalp. Literally. Nature's Gate Organics Soothing Shampoo is supposed to utilize tea tree oil to balance the scalp and soothe irritation. I expect to feel the familiar tingle that usually comes with such products but there wasn't any. I also can't say the shampoo is incredibly efficient in removing product buildup and residue from my hair. On the positive side, Nature's  Gate Organics shampoo is very mild and gentle, and definitely doesn't  aggravate my scalp.

Nature's Gate Organics Herbal Blends Moisturizing Conditioner in Chamomile & Lemon Verbana is a lightweight conditioner for everyday use. I wish it was more effective in detangling (the shampoo certainly wasn't), but other than that I'm quite happy with it. This conditioner is reasonably moisturizing (I need to use a lot, though, so it coats my hair completely) without weighing my hair down. It's not an ideal product after a full day of sun or when there are special needs, but it softens my hair and makes it look and feel healthy. Both shampoo and conditioner from Nature's Gate Organics have a mild greenish scent that doesn't take over the shower or the room. It's pleasant and fades quickly. Too fast, actually, as I prefer my hair to remain slightly fragrant. Bottom Line: adequate. Nature's Gate Organics Shampoo and Conditioner ($7.99) are available from drugstore.com. 1. It sounds like you and I are in the same boat, Gaia. I have an incredibly sensitive scalp, too, and have been using Rahua shampoo, which has been the best hair product I've used in years. I tend to stick with all-natural and organic products and have tried many different brands. Are there any other shampoos you could recommend that are a little more budget-friendly than Rahua's $32 price tag and that you find effective? Thank you.

  2. my scalp reacts, too - it breaks out when products irritate it. i like nature's gate, and use their body lotions pretty much exclusively now, but my current go-to for non-irritating shampoos is hugo naturals. they work, and my scalp remains happy and breakout-free. you might give hugo a whirl next time.

    cheers,
