“There must be more to life than having everything.”
“The day after Paul Newman was dead, he was twice as dead.”
“But the wild things cried, “Oh please don't go- We'll eat you up- we love you so!” ― Maurice Sendak, Where the Wild Things Are

So sad. He and Edward Gorey were my heroes during my art school days; I had shelves of their books to keep me encouraged whenever I questioned that path. Thanks so much for posting this.
ReplyDeleteIf I had a dollar for every time I read this to my sons when they were little, I'd be a millionaire. Come to think of it, I am a millionaire a million times over because I did read this to my sons. All the giggles and silliness when we'd get to the line "We'll eat you up we love you so" has become part of our parting words to each other all these many years later.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100% with olenska. One of the highilghts of my trip to the Cape a few years ago was touring Edward Gorey's house (Gaia, you probably know he LOVED cats), and I have his art sprinkled throughout the house.
ReplyDeleteAll I have of Maurice Sendak is my memories, my old book from when I was around 6, ... and of course, there will always be Christopher Walken reading Where The Wild Things Are.
Let the wild rumpus start.
