Annick Goutal- Le Mimosa
Annick Goutal Le Mimosa was released last spring as a limited edition fragrance. Since then it has become a regular part of Goutal's soliflore range (together with Rose Splendide, Le Muguet and La Violette), which probably means that Le Mimosa was a bigger success than anticipated. I can see why, even if personally Le Mimosa is utterly and completely not my thing.
I love mimosa as a dominant perfume note (L'Artisan Mimosa Pour Moi, Givenchy Amarige Mimosa Harvest, and I'm kicking myself for not stocking up and hoarding the beautiful mimosa L'Occitane has about eight years ago). Sadly, I find Annick Goutal Le Mimosa to be lacking in the mimosa department. There's a light and airy fruit floral opening with tons of peach on a watery green background (the SA will tell you that it smells "oh so fresh!"). There's controlled and tasteful sweetness that feels cheerful and easy going (the SA: "so youthful!"), and lots and lots of musk in the base.
I blame the peachy musk and watery greens for a) boring me, and b) not sitting well on my skin. But it's fine. There's plenty of other Goutal perfumes for me to adore and I know they need to actually sell some bottles in order to keep making things such as Mon Parfum Cheri, Par Camille, Heure Exquise and Ambre Fetiche.
Notes: mimosa absolute, green notes, iris, anise, peach, white musk, sandalwood.
Annick Goutal- Le Mimosa ($120, 100 ml EDT) is available at Nordstrom and other decent department stores. You can also find it online, probably cheaper. If I understand correctly, bottles with the sheer plain yellow ribbon are the new ones, while the ones with black polka dots are from last year, though stock photos of the bottles haven't changed.
Art: Mimosa by Nicola Simbari.
I've seen l'Occitane Mimosa on their website - has it been reformulated?
