Chanel Spring 2012 Harmonie de Printemps
Seasonal makeup collections are coming out earlier than ever (and sell out long before one is supposed to wear them). Personally, I think it's ridiculous to start spring shopping in early December, before I even had a chance to wear my new winter coat. Apparently, the people of Chanel don't agree with me, hence the release of Spring 2012 Harmonie de Printemps.
Spring collections in all their pink galore are rarely my thing. The lipsticks tend to be too bright, the blushes too floral and there's always an unwearable and unbearable pink eye shadow. Chanel Spring 2012 Harmonie de Printemps is definitely no exception, but it's large and varied enough for me to find a few items that suit me and make an edited mini collection. I chose three items from Chanel Harmonie de Printemps that I believe will work for the olive skinned who suffer from a petal pink aversion and general grouchiness about spring makeup: the limited edition Le Vernis nail polish in April and Rouge Coco lipstick in Destinee, as well as the star of this spring collection, Blush Horizon de Chanel (I previously talked about the horizontal stripe trend here). All three items can be easily incorporated into our makeup looks even now, before the holidays.
After all, if the last couple of seasons have taught us anything, by the time February (which used to be the month of spring makeup releases) rolls in, Chanel will be selling pre-fall 2012 collections.
Swatches and detailed reviews are coming as soon as I play with these a little more.
Chanel Spring 2012 Harmonie de Printemps is available at select counters and from chanel.com.
I, too, was very surprised at how early the spring collection arrived but am thrilled with the selection of sunrise colors it offers. They perfectly suit my coloring. I particularly like the cohesiveness of Chanel's spring vision. It's selection of peach, pink, and garnet run throughout the collection from blush, to nail colors, to eye shades, to lip colors. But, like you, I'm not ready for spring just yet. I'm still enjoying my rich shades of autumn and my hazy winter colors.
ReplyDeleteNow, if only they had taken as much care with their promo pic. It's a beautiful concept rendered totally creepy looking. Whoever photoshopped it is inept, but whoever approved it needs their head examined for letting it slip through.
They are not selling it in the shops yet as far as I know. At least, not where I live.
ReplyDeleteWhat did you think of the quad? I'm headed to Bergdorf tomorrow, so I'll check it out, but I'm always curious to hear your thoughts! xo
ReplyDeleteEileen, the collection was probably conceived with your coloring in mind. When I first looked at it I could almost see it on my favorite blondes. The sophistication of the colors and light textures is very Chanel, in the best way.
ReplyDeleteAs for the promo images... I'm so over the uninspired bad photoshop robo-models I see almost everywhere. Whoever thinks that's how you sell cosmetics has no idea about women. Or marketing, for that matter. I'd send them links to my favorite vintage ad sites.
Hopflower, at the moment the collection is available from select locations. It's at Bergdorf and at least one place in DC (Neiman, I think, but you'd better check Best Things In Beauty to verify).
ReplyDeleteJoey, the quad had "not me" written all over it. It's pretty, of course, but I'm sticking with the fall quads. I have very few hopes for spring eye palettes (now watch our LMdB friends come up with something that will prove me wrong).
ReplyDeleteDefinitely vintage ads would catch my eye better than the regular stuff. The blush and the polish are my favorites that I picked up in Macys a few weeks ago. I have to go and look at that lipstick again. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteI find the early releases upset me. The years zoom around fast enough without Spring happening in December. I do love the items you have chosen though. I was looking at the quad earlier and I'm sure I will be giving it a miss too.
ReplyDeleteEvelyn, do look at the lipstick again. I think it's perfect for the season. This season, that is ;) .
ReplyDeleteJane, as much as I loved the quads from fall, the good people of Chanel will have to work extra hard to produce something new that will entice me. I'm all quaded out for now.
ReplyDeleteDo you love the blush from this collection?? I've swatched it, oh, three four five times now but I can't pull the trigger!
