It's always interesting to get a glimpse of the things that really inspire and delight one's icons and role models. I couldn't wait to see the photos selected by Diane von Furstenberg, the woman responsible for a big part of my wardrobe, for The Fifty Photographs Collection. It's an interesting concept as five fashion designers (Zac Posen, Vera Wang, Prabal Gurung, Michelle Smith of Milly, and of course Diane von Furstenberg) have each curated 10 inspiring images from the very extensive New York Times photography archive. A percentage of sales of the collection go to benefit the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). I can see it making a nice holiday gift to the fashion obsessed.
DVF's selection is the most urban and most NYC of all five. It's my favorite and would have been so even if it weren't Diane's choice. There's a certain sensibility to some of these photos that I could see becoming a DVF print. To see more you can visit this page (and check out the other designers' collections via the 50 Photographs link at the top).
Are you surprised by the choices of these designers?
