The husband has pronounced me a freak long ago because I don't sweat visibly. I promise you he's exaggerating. I'm definitely not one of those Manhattanites who walk around in August wearing all black, no hair out of place and looking as cool as they do in October. I may never become drenched in sweat but I do get clammy. However, I've become very good at cementing my makeup into place so there's no melty face and I can keep up appearances.
There are some products that get used mostly in late July to mid-August. Dior Diorskin Nude Natural Glow powder makeup is one of them. This is a mineral foundation in loose powder form, something I usually avoid like the plague because my skin can get very dry very quickly. But when the goings get humid the sweaty get brave with their foundation choice.
You can easily see in the swatch that this is, indeed, a dryish powder. Of course, I used it on bare skin with no base products and while staying firmly in the blessed a/c. For me, Dior Diorskin Nude Natural Glow is an outdoor only foundation to be used sparingly. Those of you with oilier skin would most likely get a lot more use from this product.
Unlike most mineral foundations I've tried, the finish of Diorskin Nude Natural Glow looks very natural on me. It may have something to do with the color. I spent quite a bit of time testing both Light Beige 020 and Medium Beige 030. Once again I was proven that my skin is lighter than it appears at first. My color is definitely Light Beige 020. Medium Beige gave me an unnatural tan, similar to what I get from many other mineral foundations, while Light Beige requires just a hint of warming up in the form of a bronzer, more to bring dimension to the face than for color correcting.
I apply Dior Diorskin Nude Natural Glow with a flat top natural hair brush (Stila #21, Kevyn Aucoin) which I prefer over a Kabuki because they give me more control. I avoid the nose area where allergies (and Kleenex) make my skin dry. This foundation gives medium+ coverage and stays put amazingly well in NYC heat and humidity. I highly recommend not skipping a face primer: Laura Mercier and Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics both offer excellent mineral primers that aid application and lasting power.
Bottom Line: a summer staple.
Dior Diorskin Nude Natural Glow Fresh Powder Makeup SPF 10 ($46) is available at the counters.
They say mineral makeup is great for sensitive skin, but for some odd reason, I tend to break out with them. This would have been my favorite one amongst all the others I've tried, but alas, my skin just won't cooperate with it!
ReplyDeleteI actually JUST discovered loose mineral foundation. I tried Avon's smooth minerals and I love it.. there are a ton of colors and the formula is good for my combination skin. great review on this dior foundation. it's a bit out of my reach though, and i love my avon stuff!
