The only lip color in Chanel Byzance collection is Rouge Allure in a limited edition color, Rouge Byzantin. The shade is a ruby red with micro shimmer- really tiny particles that are more visible in the tube than on the arm and even less so when applied on lips; the effect is more luminous and slightly iridescent than full on shimmer. If you're familiar with the Rouge Allure formula you know that it's very moisturizing and comfortable, high on pigment but not really a full coverage lipstick. This new Rouge Allure is quite typical to the range.
This is not the first Chanel lipstick to be named Byzantin. There's a Byzantin lipstick in the Rouge Coco line. Rouge Coco 28 Byzantin looks significantly darker in the tube with a plummier undertone, but the difference is not quite as big when actually used, as you can see in the swatch. On the lips, because Rouge Coco is a creamier formula with more coverage, my natural lip color plays a smaller role. Still, Rouge Allure Byzantin has enough pigment to make a statement as a wearable but strong red.
Like all Chanel products, Rouge Allure is lightly fragranced. I love their scent and enjoy it for the few seconds it lasts on the lips. Your mileage may vary.
Bottom Line: Love.
Chanel Rouge Allure Rouge Byzantin ($32) is a limited edition and only available from Chanel boutiques around the world and currently also online from chanel.com (at least in the US).
All photos by me.
Seeing that lipstick on your skin makes me regret leaving it behind. However, like you, I had to buy only the items I thought I would use more than a few times.
ReplyDeleteThis is the one item I purchased from the Byzantin Collection. I would have liked all of it, but I have so much I'm trying to stick to the "absolutely impossible to resist" items for a while. When I read the description online, I knew I would regret it if I passed on this lipstick.
ReplyDeleteYours are the first actual swatches I've seen, and now I'm definitely going to be stalking UPS to make sure they get mine to me ASAP. It's lovely!
Thanks for the review.
Shannon
So beautiful! This and the Rouge Joues Contraste are the items from this collection that I feel such a pressing need to have but I can't get my hands on them. Maybe it's time to be more proactive in acquiring them now. Your pictures are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful swatches, and definitely my sort of colour. However, I think it is probably close enough to my Lancome Bordeaux or Armanisilk 30 that I can safely skip it.
ReplyDeletei *must* have a red like that in my stash, but I have to admit that seeing your swatch of Rouge Allure made my heart thump. Those two reds together are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteIt looks absolutely gorgeous, just wish I felt more comfortable in reds.
ReplyDeleteI have the original rouge coco colour so it remains to be seen whether i need this one or not! For some reason chanel fall debuts much later over here so I probably won't see any of the items for a month.
ReplyDeleteCG, it's a gorgeous lipstick, but in all likelihood you probably already have something similar enough. Still, I know the feeling- Chanel reds are irresistible.
ReplyDeleteShannon, there's nothing like Chanel reds, and since you're the queen of all things lipstick, it is the obvious choice for you!
ReplyDeleteC., thank you. I hope you can find and get all the items you desire. The limited edition/distribution concept is maddening.
ReplyDeleteDiana, you're probably right. So many pretties, so little time, money and storage space.
ReplyDeleteZP, I probably also have another one or four similar shades. But it's Chanel, so...
ReplyDeleteCindy, I believe everyone has a red or two they can wear, but comfort in one's skin and lipstick are definitely more important.
ReplyDeleteBiaC, I'd much prefer not to even think of fall until August.
