Laura Mercier Black Turquoise Kohl Pencil
I adore this color. Laura Mercier's Black Turquoise Kohl Pencil is a blackened teal, dark enough to be a true eyeliner but spiced up with this summer perfect turquoise that is all about sea and sun and accentuates brown eyes. It has a metallic finish but I find that the shine doesn't really show on the eyes, especially if smudged a little with a brush.
This Laura Mercier pencil is not really a traditional kohl: while certainly very soft and easy to manipulate (as demonstrated in the swatch-- it really cooperated), it's probably not the texture Taylor Momsen would choose as it isn't as smudgy and melty. You can definitely smoke and blend it using smudge brush or Laura's Smoky Liner brush with great results- from subtle and casual to high drama. Once the kohl is set there will be no smudging or migrating and the eyeliner will stay in place from morning to night. Just remember it's not really waterproof so if you're wearing Laura Mercier's kohl on a sweaty day set it with an eye shadow.
Bottom Line: love.
Laura Mercier Black Turquoise Kohl Pencil ($19) is available from the couters, Sephora and lauramercier.com.

I love that colour. A nice teal hue without being in your face. I really need to pick up some fun liner colours for this summer. It's something I've never really dabbled in.
ReplyDeleteLovely! This would go really well with the Lancome Hypnose Black Blue mascara I've got!
ReplyDeleteThis has been one of my summer staples for a few years. I've actually purchased it three times and will undoubtedly purchase it yet again. It's that lovely without being over the top color wise. On its own, the teal is subtle enough that it works as well for the office as it does for causual wear. For those times when I want to punch up the color a bit more, I pat a bit of LM's eyeshadow in St. Germaine over it and it positively glows with a deep teal light. For those of you are not familiar with St. Germaine, it is a warm, iridescent teal which works in perfect harmony with Balck Turquoise.
ReplyDeleteAll considered, Black Turquoise would make a lovely introduction into the world of colored liners for anyone who hasn't tried that particular look yet. For those of you who like playing with color, you won't be disappointed either so long as you remember that the word "black" is in the title :-) After all, this is by Laura Mercier whose color aesthetic leans towards the muted and understated.
Just for refernce, my eyes are a dark moss green and this liner really enlivens their color.
Beautiful colour, although not for me. I use Black Violet, but it does travel. I have somewhat oily eyelids, and it has to be reapplied often throughout the day. But it is beautiful, no doubt about it.
ReplyDeleteI need it!
ReplyDeletelove the adorable drawing and love those pencils :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you reviewed this! I've been avoiding her kohl pencils (despite the lovely colors) because I hate pencils that smear easily... But to hear that it doesn't makes me want to order every color available.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite eyeliners, second after MAC's Rave Pearlglides. The Eye Kohls as a whole are wonderful: Brown Copper (a dead ringer for the original Teddy from MAC), Antique Jade, Black Gold, Purple Sapphire, Black Plum—all very special, expertly judged shades.
ReplyDeleteI have this and adore it--it's down to the smallest nub. It really brings out blue or green eyes too.
ReplyDeleteC., I love fun liner colors. Using them with elegant nude and neutral eye shadows creates an interesting look.
ReplyDeleteJamilla, that's interesting. I usually go for black mascara with this. Will have to experiment.
ReplyDeleteEileen, that's an excellent review. I love hearing about the way you wear your favorite colors and how they work for you. It seems that a really good product has something to offer for more skin tones/coloring than one would expect.
ReplyDeleteHopflower, I have and love Black Violet. Will review soon.
ReplyDeleteA., yes, you do ;) .
ReplyDeleteL2S, thank you :) . So glad to see more fans of these pencils.
ReplyDeleteAdele, I tend to go wild when I find a pencil I really like. If you have serious smearing problems you might want to give the waterproof YSL pencils a chance. They survive everything.
ReplyDeleteDain, Antique Jade is on my "buy next list. You just bumped it to the top.
ReplyDeleteCindy, apparently this is an almost universal color. I can see myself going through it very quickly (even without drawing on my hands).
