Estee Lauder Shimmering Bronze Pure Color Nail Lacquer (Summer 2011)
This post about Estee Lauder Shimmering Bronze Pure Color Nail Lacquer from Summer 2011 Bronze Goddess collection is mostly for the benefit of my readers overseas, where the collection and the Shimmering Bronze nail polish are still widely available. Here in the US some counters still have it, but it's mostly sold out (though a little creative googling shows it's still around) as are most of the items in the range (I'm so glad I got the Sea Star bronzer when it first came out. It was weird in February but perfect now).
Estee Lauder Shimmering Bronze Pure Color Nail Lacquer (try saying it quickly three times) has a very pretty pink copper undertone/base, making it a little more unique in a market full of summery bronze shades. Most colors in these family are significantly more gold or just lighter (like the gorgeous LMdB Eris that I wore for the first half of the week). The finish is decidedly metallic; I like it and have dark enough skin to wear it easily as a casual color. If you're either very fair or very dark, Shimmering Bronze might look bolder on your hands.
Why I like it:
1) The shimmering formula is better than most other Estee Lauder polishes that chip when you look at them funny.
2) The brush is wide and easy to cover the nail with little to no maneuvering.
3 While what you see on my left hand in the photos are two coats (and careless haphazard application), I actually wear only one coat on my right hand. While it's lighter than the color in the bottle it still gives nearly full coverage and the pinkish copper is more evident.
4) Two minute drying time. I have yet to mess that up.
Estee Lauder Shimmering Bronze Pure Color Nail Lacquer ($19) can still be found here and there. Canadian and European Estee Lauder counters are yet to run out.
All photos are mine.
That color is luscious. I might have to see what I can find. I don't normally shop EL, and I usually pass on "bronze" anything because of my fair skin, but that looks so pretty on you, I just might cave.
ReplyDeleteYou had me at shimmering bronze. You have great taste! Looks very pretty on you.
ReplyDeleteZP, I only have a handful of EL items from recent years. There's somehing about this brand that bugs the snot out of me. Still, when I see something pretty I must have it ;) .
ReplyDeleteHDtM, thank you so much :) .
ReplyDeleteI really like the color of this one. I'm always on the lookout for a bronze nail polish that is actually dark enough not to be a beige variant.
ReplyDeleteAnd it should probably be available widely here, we are so behind with new releases.
Gaia, it's the smell. I tried my first EL lipstick in the late 80s and almost gagged at that "rose scented" fragrance. I'm sure it's come a long way in the last 20 years (most brands have), but EL will always have that stink stigma!
ReplyDeleteThat color is great, I haven't tried anything EL in a while, shall have to visit this. I tend to do either dark or nude colors, I'm not very brave when it comes to color.
ReplyDeleteInes, this one is definitely dark enough and more interesting than beige. There's something very summery about this color without being beachy or only-for-vacation.
ReplyDeleteZP, you're probably right about the smell. I do remember being put off by the entire atmosphere of the EL counters back in the 80s when I started buying makeup.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, I had to get over myself and start experimenting with more unusual nail colors. However, my heart will forever belong to classic red.
