Bite Beauty Shiraz Luminous Crème Lipstick

Bite Beauty is a new(ish) brand that focuses on lip products. I like the specialization idea: why do so many cosmetics companies feel they must offer us every and any item one could think of, even when it's clear they don't have the technology or vision to make absolutely everything? Why sell a mediocre mascara or nail polish when what you're doing best is eye shadow or lipstick? Bite Beauty is all about lips and have a good-for you approach, using mostly organic ingredients and avoid lots of substances that might be irritating. They load the lipsticks with anti-oxidants (hence all the red wine names for colors), have nice sleek looking packaging and a little design twist: the cases vary slightly between color families.

I ordered a couple of Bite lipsticks when they first came out and have been wearing them since. At a recent visit to Sephora I played with a few others and realized this can become a dangerous habit: so many great colors to love, and I fully enjoy the comfortable feeling and creamy finish of the lipsticks, even though they're a bit heavy (obviously I've gotten used to the weightless summer sheer lipsticks). The colors I have give full coverage and rich look. They have quite a bit of slip (which I like), medium lasting ability (survive a drink but not a snack) and after a day of wearing them my lips seem happy and nourished.

Shiraz is described as a soft plum, but pulls more mauve on my skin and lips, with somewhat of a brown base. I consider it a true neutral and wear it as a my lips but better shade, especially when the makeup focus is on my eyes.

Bottom Line: a great addition.

Bite Beauty Luminous Crème Lipstick ($24) is a Sephora exclusive, online and in store.

I could not possibly agree more! I'm with Larie- I'm eager to hear more about this company's products. I don't think either of my local Sephoras carry the line, so that leaves online shopping as my only option.

  4. I was curious about Bite when it came out; I love the idea of a more natural-y lippie, seeing as lipsticks are kind of eaten (eep) over time. Judging from your review, they warrant a look next time I'm in Sephora =)

  5. I share the same opinion about Bite Beauty. I love the idea that the brand can pick one thing they are really good at, and perfect it. I tried The Vitamin Gel and I really like it. Thanks for the post!

  6. O40PQ, I think you're right- it's probably a classic brunette shade.

  8. Dia, I often feel this way when I come across a really useless mascara from a brand that's otherwise very nice (Tarte is a good example).

  9. Dovey, I know, just thinking about all the lipstick and gloss I'm consuming makes me wish they at least have vitamins in them.

  11. Thank you so much for this review! I'm all about the lipsticks, yet somehow I've missed this company entirely. A company devoted to lip products is my definition of nirvana. The fact that they use natural ingredients and focus on conditioning products is like icing on the cake.

Thanks again for letting us know about this--I'm heading to their website right now!

  12. Oh this looks dreamy Gaia!
Thanks for posting...hoping they are at my local Sephora and not the larger one at the -gulp-mall.
Do they do lip liners? I recently reunited with my all time fave nude pink liner, MAC's Soar...it's a Holy Grail, but I'm always looking!

    Thanks!

  14. Debbi, they don't have regular liners, only chubby matte lip pencils that I have yet to try. I'm scared of matte lip color.
