Louis Vuitton revealed today their new ad starring Angelina Jolie. It's part of the brand's "core values" campaign (good to know that Louis Vuitton has some core values other than sticking its logo on everything) that previously included Francis Ford Coppola and his daughter Sofia (2008), Bono & Ali Hewson (2010), astronauts Sally Ride, Buzz Aldrin & Jim Lovell (2009) and others.
Shot by photographer Annie Leibovitz, the ad shows Angelina Jolie on a boat in Cambodia, wearing her own clothes, supposedly not wearing any makeup but phtoshopped from here to the moon and carrying her own four year old Louis Vuitton Alto bag. The bag, by the way, was discontinued a couple of years ago, though according to WWD, the company is now considering bringing back an updated version (aren't LVMH the kings of reformulations?).
At least it's more convincing than when Angelina Jolie posed for St. John.
I wouldn't say I am a fan of her's per se. That is a nice looking ad though. I love Louis Vuitton and I love seeing how their ads evolve and who they choose as to be their spokes person.
ReplyDeleteI am officially completely over both annie and angelina (i never liked LV to begin with.) Big ol' yawn.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE LV and Angelina so ouch for my wallet. Very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI love Louis Vuitton and I love her bag. She looks like she has smoky eyes. I doubt she had smoky eyes naturally lol. I am not an Angelina fan though.
ReplyDeleteLOL on the core values comment. I like Angelina, however the ridiculous photoshopping... is well, ridiculous. It looks like a scene from Lord of the Rings
ReplyDeleteI wish I looked like that while trekking through Cambodia. I do agree that this is a better fit than her stint as the St. John's model.
ReplyDeleteI posted on this too--there is no way she's not wearing at least eye makeup. I certainly don't have eyes with naturally dark eyeliner circling them. It is a beautiful ad but why do these companies always think we're stupid and don't know about photoshop?
ReplyDeleteGood to know that she's sublimely channeling her charitable overseas persona to promote handbags.
ReplyDeleteHDtM, some of their spokespeople definitely were/are very distinguished.
ReplyDeleteKamo, you and I bothe ;)
ReplyDeleteJC, I have a feeling that if they re-release this particular bag many a wallet will weep.
ReplyDeleteLeticia, yes, the area has most definitely been touched up the most. With photoshop even my orange tabby can look like he's sporting a smoky eye.
ReplyDeleteDovey, now I'm imagining glowy dead people in the water around Angie. And probably also Gollum.
ReplyDeleteLexi, I could never get the link between Angelina and the Laura Bush fashion.
ReplyDeleteCindy, I know. Remember the time Lancome photoshopped Julia Roberts to the point even her mother would have had a hard time recognizing her?
ReplyDeleteSophia, I couldn't have said it any better myself ;) .
