It's incredibly sad- I loved ogling the (unbelievably pricey) Japanese art and housewares, but even more so the beauty and fragrance department, even in its reduced size. It's even more unfortunate when you remember they just started carrying Mona di Orio perfumes (the only USA point of sale), and as far as I know they are the only ones in the NYC area who sell Neil Morris perfumes.

ReplyDeleteI am soooooo sad -- I so enjoyed thiselegant retreat on 5th where East meets West. It had such an elegant and unusual feel.
I enjoyed the Sniffapaloozaevents there with the deliciious cupcakes and ango iced tea. I bought a few items in the Beauty department Sensai Kenebo I think...
This is so telling of the hard economic times in which we are all immersed.
Sad....
And the beautiful tea room, and Santa Maria Novella products, and the most exquisite scarves... I will miss it very much.

My horn spice cups and ebony tray designs have been a constant on the 3rd floor for almost 10 years. I'm sad to lose such a wonderful customer but sadder yet for Takashimaya's loyal customers and all of the employees who are losing their jobs. A huge loss for NYC.
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful store with wonderful things, but it goes to show how times have really changed, the local economy can't support this store in NYC. Amazing they can't make it selling only luxury goods on Fifth Avenue anymore. Other stores had more of a mix but Tak was always top of the line with every little thing...
