Amen to that! I have been to concerts and even the opera where people came in jeans and plaid and smuggled in boxes of pizza. Is it really that much trouble to dress up these days?
ReplyDeleteI had the great pleasure of seeing the movie version at a big theater in Glendale, a pristine print and an interview with one of the youthful dancers, now elderly but shockingly spry.
ReplyDeleteI admit that I wore jeans to my last Bway show, but we waited in line for about 6 hours for stand-by tickets. I did not however bring in takeout.
I don't get to dress up nearly enough in my daily life, so going to a show (a rare treat!) certainly inspires me to pull out the best dress I own. I think I owe dressing nicely to the performers, to fellow audience members, and to myself and my companion(s) as well.

Oh dear, how funny. Pizza! I just sent this article to my mother in law and daughter. One of their greatest pleasures is attending the theater together- ballet, opera etc. They feel the WHOLE POINT is that they can dress up! There are so few opportunities to actually "Dress" these days, we now relish those times.
